Decoupling the structural and magnetic phase transformations in magneto- optic MnBi thin films by the partial substitution of Cr for Mn
نویسندگان
چکیده
The first-order nature of the magnetic phase transformation at 360 °C and the presence of a Bi-rich eutectic at 265 °C have inhibited the application of MnBi thin films for high density magneto-optical data storage. It is suggested that partial substitution of Cr for Mn should both lower the Curie temperature, Tc , and decouple the lattice and magnetic transitions so as to allow reversible Curie point writing. It is found experimentally that 10% substitution of Cr for Mn reduces the apparent Tc to ;250 °C while retaining a Kerr rotation angle greater than 1° at 633 nm, as measured through the silica glass substrate. Observations of increasing Hc with temperature in both MnBi and ~Mn,Cr!Bi thin films suggest that the low-temperature phase is ferrimagnetic. © 1998 American Institute of Physics. @S0003-6951~98!01717-3#

Magneto-optical properties of chromium-alloyed manganese bismuth thin films
MnBi thin films have been considered for short-wavelength rewritable optical recording media due to the very large magneto-optic Kerr rotation and perpendicular anisotropy (Ku) of the hexagonal magnetic low-temperature MnBi phase. However, coincident structural and magnetic transformations near the Curie temperature ~360 °C! result in poor thermal cycling behavior, preventing the application of...

Having precise hysterics loop of thin ferroelectric and ferromagnetic layers for optical switching and optical storages are important. A hysterieses loop can be achieved from a phenomenon call the magneto-optic effect. The magneto-optic effect is the rotation of a linear polarized electromagnetic wave propagated through a ferromagnetic medium. When light is transmitted through a layer of magnet...
متن کاملEffect of Magnetic Field on Surface Morphology and Magnetic Properties of FeCu/Cu Nano layers Prepared by Electrodeposition Technique: Investigation of Magneto-hydrodynamic Effect
In this paper, the effect of magnetic field on the morphology, structure and magnetic properties of electrodeposited FeCu/Cu thin films was investigated. The films were deposited on Au2PdAg/glass substrates using electrodeposition technique in potentiostatic control. The magnetic fields of 5000 and 7000 Oe were applied on deposition bath during deposition. Two series of thin films were prepared...
متن کاملInfluence of Co and Fe substitution on optical and structural properties of zinc oxide thin films
Zn0.97TM0.03O (TM = Co, Fe) thin films were deposited onto glass substrates by the sol–gel method and the effects of transition metals substitution on structural and optical properties of ZnO films were investigated. The X-ray diffraction patterns revealed that the films have wurtzite structure. Optical transmittance of the films was recorded in the range of 200 -800 nm wave length and the band...
